Nimble Makers: Fall Session 1 is a 4-week after-school studio cohort designed for curious kids who love working with their hands, experimenting with authentic artist tools, and exploring multi-medium construction. Each week introduces a completely different tactile material—from Gelli printmaking plates to oven-bake clay, and kinetic balance. Young makers learn real studio techniques, tackle fun creative challenges, and build finished pieces they are genuinely proud to bring home. Week 1 (Oct 6): Layered Monoprints & Accordion Books We kick off with printmaking! Makers explore Gelli plate monoprinting using brayers, botanical textures, and stencil masks. After pulling vibrant layered prints, they’ll fold, assemble, and bind their work into a custom pocket-sized accordion art journal. Week 2 (Oct 13): Polymer Clay Character Students learn wire armature building, surface texturing, and fine modeling to sculpt an original character figurine. Week 3 (Oct 20): Mixed-Media Assemblage Focusing on composition , and visual storytelling, makers will combine magazine images, textured papers, fabric scraps and paint pens to construct ready-to-hang frameable pieces. Week 4 (Oct 27): Kinusaiga Japanese Kinusaiga (No-Sew Fabric Inlay) Makers transfer a graphic pattern onto high-density foam board, score the outlines, and tuck edges of patterned fabric scraps into the grooves using wooden styling tools. It creates a crisp, vibrant textile mosaic without needles or stitching.
